Photographer, Taipei / New York.

I’m generally tempted to take photos of things that display an enigmatic or uncanny feature by accident.
They might eventually echo one another and chain into a cognitive pattern: things that look the same can make a nice book.

Some photos also develop their own graphic or playful aesthetic when framed into a picture, while others are eccentric by-products stratified by our complex ways of living.

Sometimes, photos also show up and take me by chance.

Pirouette

"Pirouette" is not the name of the dog on the cover.
The photos in this book were taken while doing something else: walking to the nearest supermarket, chatting about politics and cute dogs, sweating on a bike near a beach, commuting on the metro and coming back home perfectly tired after a day of fun outside, taking the bus to renew my ID on the most random Tuesday, etc.
They are moments that appeared in front of me like visual pirouettes, and immediately changed my idea of life, or of myself, or of beauty, or of friendship, or of things I had no idea I even had an idea of.

Out Of Office

The fate of an office chair is to stay indoor at a desk, partner in boredom to the daily clerical routine. In Taiwan, fortunate office chairs enjoy a better future, outdoors, some are the best friend of a nap in the shade, others gather and share the midday gossip. The harsh sun dims their hyper colors, and the tropical sweats polish their functional curves into the riddles of a life well spent.

Far Too Close (Go Too Far)

A poster book that puts you before a difficult choice: keep the book, or destroy it to get posters? The photos and the book itself are a playful dance around the idea of reading signs, hoping for better judgment to guess what the future holds. But the posters are folded, revealing only part of the information...
In Taiwan, everyday life choices and fortunes are swayed by consulting Taoist gods, collecting temple amulets and charms in various shapes and materials - and the wisps of incense smoke.
Useful guides when you feel far too close to the problem and might go too far with an impulsive solution!
